I’m thrilled to announce that June is the Society’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Month! It is also the fourth anniversary of CEO Action for Diversity and Inclusion and the third anniversary since the Society signed the CEO Action Pledge, cementing our commitment to DEI. We spoke with Shannon Schuyler, U.S. Chief Purpose & Inclusion Officer at PwC and one of the founders of CEO Action about its beginnings and rapid growth. Read the interview here.
Throughout the month, we’ll recognize various ways the Society and our members are working to increase DEI in the accounting profession. Here are four things to know:
- Inclusion drives diversity – we must create inclusive and equitable workplaces before we can retain diverse teams. The Society is developing new programming to help our members create inclusive workplaces – details will be announced soon!
- We’re spotlighting a few firms who are championing DEI on our Facebook and LinkedIn pages this month, so check them out.
- On Wednesday, we gave over $145,000 in scholarships to a talented and diverse group of accounting students. Learn about them here. Thank you to all our donors who made this possible!
- Our DEI work involves many groups, including the LGBTQIA community. While we celebrate Pride Month in June, our efforts and support are year-round. For our members in this community – we are your ally, and your involvement in our programs will help us create impactful change in the profession.
We can achieve far more together than we can alone. Congratulations to Deloitte for committing $75 million to boost the number of diverse CPAs through the newly launched Making Accounting Diverse and Equitable (MADE) initiative! I am excited for the future of this great profession and look forward to working with you all.
